A Practical Guide to Using the Optimizer
This tool is designed for power and simplicity. Here’s how to get the most out of it in a few easy steps. Mastering this workflow will allow you to prepare images for any web project, from a personal blog to a large e-commerce site, ensuring optimal performance every time.
- Upload Your Images: Begin by dragging and dropping up to 20 images directly onto the designated area, or click to open your file browser. The tool accepts a wide range of formats, including JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and WebP. You will see a small preview card for each image you select.
- Set a Target File Size: This is the tool's most powerful feature for formats like JPEG and WebP. Use the slider to set a target size in kilobytes (KB). This isn't a vague quality percentage; it's a concrete performance goal. The engine will work to get as close as possible to this target. Note that this slider is disabled for lossless formats like PNG, as their size is not controlled by a quality setting.
- Resize Dimensions: Before compressing, it's crucial to resize. Enter the exact width and height in pixels that you need for your website. Avoid uploading a 4000px image if it will only be displayed at 800px. This step alone drastically reduces file size and improves page load metrics.
- Choose an Output Format: Select your desired final format from the dropdown. For photos, JPEG or WebP are usually best. For graphics needing transparency, choose PNG. See our detailed guide on formats in the adjacent column for more information on making the right choice.
- Process and Download: Click the "Optimize Images" button. The tool will process everything right in your browser. Once complete, you will see output cards for each image, showing the new file size and providing a one-click download link.
